Subject: Making Money Playing Crypto Games

Hi there!

Currently, the way most people make money from
cryptocurrency is by staking, HODLing, or day
trading.

But what if you could actually earn a living
playing video games?

Axie Infinity is one of the main and most
popular games on the market.It's a play-to-earn
game that also features a blockchain-based NFT
economy and marketplace.

The way the game works is pretty much the same
way mining works on other blockchains.

You use your NFT “monsters” (called Axies in the
game) to battle other monsters or the teams of other
players, then the winner gets a reward (while also
incidentally doing some mining).

This reward (SLP) can be bought or sold on Uniswap
or Binance.

In addition to the fighting, you can actually breed
the Axies, looking for super rare combinations of
traits, abilities, and body types.

The most valuable Axie ever sold went for over a
million US dollars. Most will be only worth a few,
however, so you need a little knowledge before you
leap into breeding these NFTs.

One issue with starting out in Axie Infinity is
the initial cost, currently several hundred dollars
to set up your wallets, buy the relevant cryptocurrencies
(AXS and SLP) and buy a team of three Axies from their
marketplace.

That’s a lot of money for a startup game.

Fortunately, there’s a system within the game where
you can “rent” a team of Axies and pay for them over
time.

While you can only play three Axies at a time, you can
own up to 20.

A “Manager” is a person who has collected a bunch of
Axies and is loaning them out to “Scholars,” who can’t
afford to purchase them outright.

The Scholars will split their earnings 60-40
(Scholars-Managers) until they’ve earned enough to buy
the Axies they’ve borrowed.

From there, the game is yours to control.

But can you actually make a living playing a game 9-5
Monday through Friday?

Well, it depends on where you live and what your cost
of living might be.

Many people in the Global South are making it work,
especially in the Philippines and Venezuela.

According to Rest of World, 31-year-old R.K. Secretario
earns about 18,000 euros playing Axie Infinity.

As the cost of living in the Philippines is around 13,512
euros, R.K. has enough to live on (and maybe to save a bit
as well).

If you live elsewhere, 18,000 euros won’t pay all the bills.
It’s a nice chunk of change, though, and if you’re
already sitting around playing Super Mario or World of Warcraft
half the day, you may as well be earning some eating money
while you play, right? :)

In our next email, we’ll look at GameFi explained.

Until then,
